Senior Specialist H&S; Salo/Uusikaupunki

In our Electric Vehicle Business Line (EVBL) we develop and manufacture battery systems from 48V up to High Voltage for automotive and industrial applications. Valmet Automotive covers the full range from contract manufacturing to a TIER1 system supplier.


Health & Safety Engineer’s main task is to drive, develop and execute comprehensive safety strategy in Valmet Automotive EV Business Line in all affected locations. In this position Health & Safety Engineer is accountable for establishing a culture of positive Health & Safety adoption at its major areas; personal safety, premises safety and process safety. Furthermore, the task includes governing of dangerous goods processes at EV Business Line.


The person acts as a member of EVBL’s international H&S team and gives valuable input to VA Group H&S strategy and execution by translating official requirements, Business Line’s and own policies and business goals into well-defined plans and actions.  Risk management is part of the role to define the challenges before they turn into problems.


The person empowers the organization in achieving the targets and encourages people to join safety development. The task includes reporting suitable H&S key indicators to monitor the success of safety in work. Developing of training concept and material relating to H&S topics is part of the role.


This role is to standardize the EVBL H&S processes in all affected locations and to support the related operations H&S activities.  


The position is either in Salo or Uusikaupunki, however the work requires travelling between these locations and occasional travelling abroad. The role reports to Director, EVBL QHSE. 


  • the vision and engagement to build and enhance the H&S area 
  • 5+ years of experience with proven track record of delivery 
  • knowledge in quality systems and processes and the application of these to manufacturing industry as well as relevant experience in internal and external auditing
  • knowledge in quality and environmental systems and processes and the application of these to manufacturing industry as well as relevant experience in internal and external auditing
  • knowledge in dangerous goods regulations (ADR, IMDG-Code)
  • knowledge of lithium battery solutions and technologies is an advantage
  • strong interpersonal, influencing and communication competencies needed to promote collaboration within health and safety field
  • excellent time management and prioritization abilities with independent resoluteness
  • Finnish and English language skills are necessities in this position
  • German is considered as an asset
