In our new Electric Vehicle Business Line (EVBL) we develop and manufacture battery systems from 48V up to High Voltage for automotive and industrial applications. Valmet Automotive covers the full range from contract manufacturing to a TIER1 system supplier.


Your challenge

In the role of Specialist Material Technology you are an expert for mechanical, electrical, thermal and chemical properties of materials. Your tasks include:

  • You consult and support the design engineers in selecting the right materials for various applications in projects.
  • You manage and organize materials technology development tasks assigned to the internal development pipeline and execute them.
  • Reliably maintain the material technology development roadmap and report the progress of tasks/projects to the domain lead.
  • In addition, you review the proposals received for tasks in the area of material technology development and maintain and update the material database.


We expect you to have/are

  • Several years of professional experience in a similar position, an academic background can be seen as an asset
  • Knowledge of material properties (e.g. chemical details, fatigue, thermal durability, flammability, recyclability, wetting, coatings) and experience in testing material properties (mechanical, thermal, electric) and plastic deformation/failure properties of different materials
  • Familiarity with joining materials and the related effect on material properties (arc welding, laser welding, soldering, joining different materials)
  • Detailed and systematic way of working and ability to evaluate relevance according to business scope
  • Fluent English communication skills, German or Finnish language would be highly appreciated
